We at Thun are very lucky to call Ennepetal our home. Sprawling forests, youthful valleys, fresh creeks and rivers, and a handful of nature trails and paths all but a few minutes away from our company (embedded in the surrounding nature reserve).

However, as of 2020, the forest around our building started to get hacked down. The reason? The dry season from 2018 until 2020 has rendered the trees sick and defenseless, allowing an invasive bug species to ravage the remaining healthy trees. Cutting down the trees contains the spread of the bugs, removes the dead trees (prevents forest fires), and clears the path for more stable tree species to replace the lost forest area. The barren area surrounding our factory (as shown in the video) has more than quadrupled since 2020, leaving our entire team wondering what we can do to fight this.

Instead of buying holiday gifts for our customers and stakeholders this year, we will plant trees and ensure that the latter ones become native again in our region.

We are cooperating with the local and non-profit charity organization Waldlokal (website: https://waldlokal.com), which specializes in reforestation in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany (and soon all over Germany) and exclusively creates climate-stable mixed forests on communal grounds. Not only have we subscribed to repeatedly donate new trees to be planted and cared for in our city (and beyond), but we will also become the patron and promoter of a large new reforestation project in our neighborhood.

FYI: This is NOT a carbon compensation/offset project at this point. For now, this is focusing on biodiversity. Through this project, appropriate tree species will be replenished that play an important role as a stable foundation of their respective ecosystems.

You will be kept in the loop in regards to this project, as well as our other CSR projects!

Special thanks to our team member Claudio Catania for capturing what is happening in our surrounding forests with his drone.
